Why and how to join
If you are planning to attend a UK University, you will need to meet your future university’s language requirement. There are a few ways to do this – the most popular being IELTS and pre-sessional (PSE) courses.
Why take a PSE course instead of the IELTS? Many students find that taking a PSE is not only helpful in skipping the frustrating IELTS exam, but the course also teaches important academic skills and knowledge needed at a UK university. Studying in Thai universities is different to UK universities – different focus, necessary skills, day-to-day life, class structure and more. Our PSE helps acclimate students to these changes to give them a head start.
To join, you can contact us to let us know the conditional offer you have and from which UK university. If you haven’t applied to a UK university yet, our partner agencies, McDucation and BRIT-Ed are great options to help guide you in the process of applying for UK university.
Once we know the university you’d like to attend, we’ll provide a few course options and dates to best match your requirements. If you don’t already have an IELTS score, we can then set up a mock test to make sure your English skills are at the required level to join.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes! One of the main benefits is that students who take and pass the course can forgo the IELTS exam. As long as your future university is on the the list, then you can use it in lieu of the IELTS.
No – this course is mostly aimed at improving academic skills and getting students ready for the type of study found at a UK university. This gives students a great head start for their UK studies, and will definitely put them on the right path to success.
The improvement in their English is another objective of the course and students will see solid improvement in all four skills of English, in a true academic environment like they will have at university.
No, all the teachers are non-Thai, native English speakers who are highly qualified, having a masters or above, and are trained/approved by the university for PSE teaching.
Although both courses can be used in lieu of an IELTS score for university entrance, they have slightly different purposes. First, although some UK universities accept both courses, some universities only accept one or the other. Our counselors will make sure that your future university accepts the course before you join.
Secondly, the Heriot-Watt (HWU) course is completed over 6 weeks (weekdays), or 11 weeks (weekends), while the Strathclyde PSE course is completed over 8 or 12 weeks (weekdays). The price of the Strathclyde PSE course is higher than the HWU PSE course as it is longer.
Thirdly, because the Strathclyde course is longer, you can join the course with lower IELTS subskill scores. The specific IELTS score required for the course will depend on the university you want to attend.
Definitely – about 30% of our students on any given PSE course normally already have the required IELTS score. They’ve joined in order to get the many benefits of an academic course which prepares students for UK university studies. If you want to be as successful as possible in your university, a pre-sessional gives you a huge boost.
